Roger P. Lane, 69, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at Kavanagh House on 56th Street. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church with burial at Resthaven Cemetery.

Roger was born and raised in Van Meter, Iowa, the son of Hilda and Phillip Lane. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a longtime West Des Moines resident. Roger was owner of Lane's Fast Lube for many years. He was a member of St. Timothy's Episcopal Church. Roger loved spending time in his garden and with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Roger is survived by his loving wife, Jean Lane; five children, Kim (Carol) Smith of West Des Moines, Chris (Sue) Smith of Johnston, Tammi (Chuck) Chitwood of Runnells, Marty (Jennifer) Nystrom of Mebane, North Carolina, and Lynn (Doug) Power of West Des Moines; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and his sister, Sharon (Leland) Norte of Ruleville, Mississippi.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Michael Lane; and sister, Linda Arrasmith.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at McLaren's Chapel. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Timothy's Episcopal Church, Hospice of Central Iowa or the FreeStore. ~ McLaren's Chapel, Des Moines, Iowa Tues 17 May 2011.
