La Vera C. Dunbar, 74, of 5642 N.W. First St. died of cancer Friday at Mercy Hospital Medical Center. Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Hamilton's near Highland Memory Gardens Funeral Home, with burial at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.

A lifelong Des Moines resident, Mrs. Dunbar retired as secretary and bookkeeper for Dunbar Ditching Inc. in 1989. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include her husband, Bill; three stepsons, Bill Jr. of Elkhart, Tom of Urbandale and Timothy of Gulfport, Miss.; a stepdaughter, Sandyann Dudley of Des Moines; and 11 grandchildren.

Friends may call after 1 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Iowa. ~ The Des Moines Register, Des Moines, Iowa Sun 11 Aug 1991.
