Ronald Pot, 78, died early Monday morning with family by his side in Tampa, Fl from complications of Alzheimer's disease. Ron was raised in The Netherlands and returned to the U.S. in 1954 where he served two years in the U.S. Army. An avid ice hockey player, he was instrumental in establishing and coaching a Pee Wee Hockey Team in Des Moines, IA. Ron and his late wife, Judi, owned and operated two businesses: the first, a publication called "Profile of Des Moines", a monthly visitors guide to the city; secondly, Sailors Harbor, a retail sales and service enterprise, promoting cruising sailboats in the Central Iowa area. Ron and fellow sailing enthusiasts founded Midwest Cruising Sailors Association; and he and Judi led yearly cruises to the Gulf of Mexico, the Apostle Islands, and with his family enjoyed many cruises to the Bahamas. After retiring to Florida, Ron embarked on a third career; tour guiding, hosting British tourists and student groups to the Orlando area and Washington, D.C.

Ron is survived by his daughter, Melanie Finnipot of Portland, OR, his son, Eric (Amy) A. Pot of Los Angeles, CA, grandson, Liam Pot and granddaughters, Rileigh and Madailin Pot; also, a brother, Aart Pot, of the Netherlands.
