Vctoria Louise Clark, 101, of the Mitchellville and Altoona area, peacefully slipped away on September 16, 2012, at Heritage Health in Jacksonville, IL.

Victoria was born on August 24, 1911, in Mitchellville, IA, the daughter of Ernest and Lydia West. She married Ralph Clark on August 31, 1935, at her family home in Mitchellville. Ralph preceded her in death on April 26, 1988, at the age of 76, after 53 years of marriage. Victoria also had 4 brothers: Ray, Donald, Kenneth, and Leigh (surviving wife, Helen), and a sister, Aseneth.

She is survived by her three children, Cheryl (Bruce) Pilcher of Jacksonville, IL, Beverly (Terrace) Thomas of West Des Moines, IA, and Roger (Candace) Clark of Colleyville, TX; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Victoria was a lifelong member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Mitchellville. As a child, she helped her father in his plumbing business, and after the death of her mother when she was 12, became the cook for the family. She loved playing kittenball, roller skating, sports with her brothers, and going fishing with her dad. She and Ralph graduated in the class of 1928 from Mitchellville High School.

After high school graduation, Victoria (Tory) attended Cedar Falls Teachers College. She taught for a year in a one room school, and then worked in Mitchellville. After marrying Ralph, they were a team as they enjoyed working together, enjoying the life on a farm and being with family members. Known for her positive outlook on life and her many sayings, including “We’ll see” whenever her children asked for something, and “Go with the Flow” when deciding what to do; she has left a loving legacy in the hearts of her children and their children.

A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, September 22, 2012, at the First Congregational Church United Church of Christ in Mitchellville, IA, with visitation one hour prior to the 12 p.m. service. Victoria will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband at Mitchellville Cemetery following the service. Family will then share reflections with friends over lunch back at the church.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Mitchellville Public Library, or to the First Congregational Church United Church of Christ in Mitchellville, IA.
