H. E. Barquist Rites Saturday

Services for Herbert E. Barquist, 73, of 402 S.W. Virginia ave., a lifelong Des Moines resident, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Park Avenue Christian Church with burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Barquist died of a heart attack Wednesday at Veterans Hospital after an illness of several years.
Born in Des Moines and graduated from East High School, Mr. Barquist was employed as the chief clerk of the passenger department of the Rock Island Railroad for 47 years until he retired in 1959.
He was a member of the National Association of Retired Employees Unit 100, the Brotherhood of Railway and Steamship Clerks, the American Legion “40 and 8” and Park Avenue Christian Church. He was a charter member of the Argonne American Legion Post and the W.W.I Service Men’s Club.
Survivors include his wife, Bessie; a son Herbert Eugene, jr., of Kansas City, Mo.; three daughters, Mrs. Patricia Piehl of Mount Pleasant, Ill., Mrs. Jacqueline Lewie of Waco, Tex., and Mrs. Juanita Moffat of Austin, Tex.; two brothers, William and Roy, both of Des Moines; two sisters, Irene Barquist of Palo Alto, Calif., and Mrs. Ruth Sexton of Trenton, N.J., and 11 grandchildren.
The body is at Dahlstrom Funeral Home.
