Judy Ellen ROTHMAN-DRAKE was born on April 11, 1941 in Des Moines, Iowa to Ray SKALA and Geraldine McCHASEN. Most of Judy's life was spent in Iowa with her family. Judy was later blessed with five children and a husband, Lewis Joseph ROTHMAN. She also raised foster-children with her husband before his death in 1985. Judy spent a lot of time as a den mother, Camp Fire Girls leader, Head Start teacher, camping, providing for the less fortunate, traveling with her family and taking care of everyone around her.

In 1986, she moved to Delphos, Iowa. On February 23, 1997, Judy was united in marriage to Richard DRAKE. Upon this marriage she was given four step-children, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. All of Judy's time in Mount Ayr was dedicated to helping others and spending time with her family.

Judy was a generous and family oriented woman. Her generosity and loving heart has touched the lives of everyone she met. She always put the happiness of others before her own. The love in her heart had an incomparable strength, even towards strangers.

The last three years of her life were spent raising her granddaughter and being with Richard. She enjoyed working with people and using her outstanding talent to arrange flowers and decorate cakes.

Judy passed away at her home on Saturday, August 14, 2003.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Geraldine SKALA; sister, Carol Lynn MULINIZ; and first husband, Lewis Joseph ROTHMAN.

Left behind to celebrate her life are her husband, Richard DRAKE of Mount Ayr; sisters, Jo Ann and Cliff BAILEY of Bondurant, Iowa, Martha and Les TROSTER of Delphos; brothers, Jerry Ray SKALA and Douglas H. SKALA; children,

Diane and Bill EMARD of Tehachapi, California, Donald and Julie ROTHMAN of Lancaster, California, Debbie ROTHMAN of Mitchellville, Iowa, Lewis ROTHMAN III of Des Moines,and Bernie ROTHMAN of Des Moines; step-children, Larry and
Peggy DRAKE of Mount Ayr, Eric and Erica DRAKE of Blockton, Iowa, Karen and Terry CURTISS of Great Falls, Montana, and Sandy and Bob IZER of Aplington, Iowa; many nieces and nephews; 25 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

A time of remembrance and sharing was held at Saint Joseph's Catholic Church in Mount Ayr on Wednesday, August 18, from 5 to 6 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the Hamilton's Funeral Home North in Des Moines on Thursday, August 19, 2004. The viewing will begin at 1 p.m. and the service at 2 p.m., performed by Rev. Ed SHIELDS.

Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery, Des Moines.

Hamilton's Funeral Home is located at 121 N.W. 60th Avenue, Des Moines. To get to the services, take 1-35/80 to 2nd Avenue, go north on 2nd Avenue and take a right on N.W. 60th Avenue.
