Gary Anthony Cipale, 66, of Des Moines, IA, died February 22, 2012, at Veterans Hospital in Des Moines, IA. Funeral services will be Tuesday, February 28, 2012, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Des Moines, IA. Burial will be at the Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines, IA. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, February 27, 2012, at Grandview Funeral Home, with a vigil at 7 p.m.

Gary was born May 6, 1945, in Des Moines, IA, to Charles and Mary (Biondi) Cipale. Gary grew up in Des Moines and graduated from Des Moines Technical High School. He was married to Eileen (Wyld) Cipale. After serving in the Army, Gary was self-employed with Cipale Decorating and Refinishing, and he loved refinishing furniture. He was an active member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, St. Joseph's.

Gary is survived by his son, Phil (Jodi) Cipale; grandchildren, London Cipale, Emalie, Ashton, Morgan and Seth Cipale; step-grandsons, Brad Boyd and Andrew (Chantel) Boyd; five sisters, Josephine Sheehan, Ann Marie (Ron) Harsh, Margaret Ann (Dave) Murray, Marilyn (Sam) Campero, and Carolyn (Don) Hartley; sisters-in-law, Donna Cipale, Marlena Cipale, and Shirley Cipale; brother-in-law, Darrell McAninch, and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; a son, Gary Cipale Jr.; sisters, Theresa Papiani and Rosemary McAninch, and brothers, Angelo, Charles Jr. and Joseph.

A special thank you to the Veterans Hospital and its staff and the Community Life Center (3rd Floor) for his care. Memorial contributions can be made to the family or to St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
