Services will be held at 10:30 a. m. Saturday at St. peter’s Catholic Church for Edward L. Murphy, 64, of 4242 Grandview Ave., who died of emphysema Tuesday July 18, 1989 at Mercy Hospital Medical Center. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery.
Mr. Murphy was born in Melrose and lived in Des Moines most of his life. He had been a glazer for Foreman Ford Glass Co., retiring last year, and was a member of the glazers union and a navy veteran of World War II serving in the Pacific. Edward was at the signing of the surrender in Tokyo Bay.
Surviving are three daughters, Anna Sears and Sue Rawson, both of Des Moines and Kathy Hoover of Waterloo; a son Thomas R. ( Dianne) Murphy: a sister Mary Speed of East Alton, IL; two brothers Paul and Jim, both of Des Moines; and eight grandchildren.
Friends may call after 2 p. m. today at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, where a rosary will be recited at 7:30 p. m.. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mercy Hospital Foundation.
