THE IOWA STATE LEADER, Des Moines, Iowa Saturday, July 7, 1877

The death of Johnny Harrison yesterday was startling news to his friends as the news spread from lip to lip and flew from street to street. He was down town the day before and but very few of his friends knew he had been complaining or unwell until after his death when it was learned that he had been complaining of a general debility for some little time previous. He had made up his mind to come down town for some medicine although that was against the remonstrance of Mrs. Brice, at whose home he was staying temporarily, when he suddenly fell forward insensible, and died in a couple of hours, never having spoken a work from the time he became insensible. Dr. Grimes was called in but their could be nothing done, for it seemed impossible to keep the blood in circulation, or to start circulation. He was a man of many excellent traits of character, and who had made hosts of friends in the city and the contiguous country since his connection with Mr. Brice's business nearly nine years ago. He as 27 years of age, and had no relatives in the city. His two brothers in St. Louis have been telegraphed to, and they will decide the disposition to be made of the remains.
