ALIENE HAZEL BARRETT MALLY
Lake City, Iowa

Aliene Hazel (Barrett) Mally was born in Polk City, Iowa on March 12, 1925 to Milo Barrett and Lola (Sutter) Barrett. The oldest of four children and the only daughter in the family. In her youth Aliene excelled in school and sports. She graduated from Polk City High School in 1941, when she was just 16 years old. After graduation, Aliene attended Iowa State College where she earned a B.A. in math and Physical education as well as a teaching certificate.

During her college years of WWII, Aliene worked as a real-life "Rosie the Riveter" in the Des Moines Munitions Plant. Following her graduation from ISU, Aliene taught in the Spencer school district, worked for Boeing Aircraft in Wichita and then finally found a passion in accounting.

Aliene had known Art Mally and his family for most of her life. In 1953, shortly before Art returned to college from the Korean War, Aliene became reacquainted with Art. Aliene married Art at the Federated Christian Church in Berwick, Iowa on September 17, 1954.

After Art finished veterinary school, Aliene lent her accounting expertise and office management skills to starting a new veterinary practice in Lake City. Until her retirement in 1998, Aliene was a fixture in the clinic. Even in later years, customers calling after hours would find themselves talking with sure-voiced Aliene.

Aliene and Dr. Arthur Mally raised two children together, Robert resides in Atlanta, GA., and Patricia lives in Perry, Iowa. Aliene was the joyful grandmother to four grandchildren, Leslie Olson, Devin Breese, Chelsey Mally and Clint Mally. She also shared her love with four great-grandchildren, Ayden Breese and Dessa, Emma and Sage Paul.

Faithful to the end, Aliene met her Creator on the evening of November 5, 2011 in Lake City.
