“Is Dead at 68”

“Fred B. Blend, 68, of 1911 Thirty-fourth st., a Des Moines resident 44 years, died of a heart ailment Friday at Iowa Methodist Hospital after a 10-day illness.

Born in Evansville, Ind., Mr. Blend was employed by the Iowa Employment Security Commission. He belonged to Westminister United Presbyterian, Pioneer Masonic Lodge and was a charter member of Argonne American Legion Post.

Surviving are his wife, Ethel R., and a son, James F., both of Des Moines; a brother, Gordon B., of Columbus, Ohio, and a niece reared in the Blend home, Mrs. John C. Nevin, of Portland, Ore.

The body was taken to Dunn’s Funeral Home.”

Frederick Brackett Blend was born on July 15, 1888 in Evansville, Indiana to Charles Frederick Blend and Ruth Simpson Wilson, and departed this life on May 24, 1957 in Des Moines. He married Ethel Gertrude Richards, daughter of Charles James Richards and Eva Elstin Bailey, on August 16. 1919 in Des Moines.
