Jack C. Ackelson, 75 years old, went to be with his Lord Jesus Christ.

Jack was born July 17, 1936 to Ilot and Louise Ackelson and was a lifelong resident of Des Moines. He married Edwana Senecaut December 7, 1964 and both Jack and Edwana were well known throughout the area for their many years of witnessing for the Lord and handing out gospel tracks.

Jack accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal savior on July 10, 1967. His greatest love was his wife Edwana and talking to people he met about the Lord, he never met a stranger he couldn't talk to. He enjoyed the Iowa State Fair for many years and also enjoyed his old trucks and cars. He was a member of the Good Guys and Christian Rodders Association, Jack will be missed by many friends and family.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Ilot and Louise Ackelson; his son, Kirby Lee Burton; his sister, Juanita (Herb) Marker; and his brother, Richard Ackelson.

Survivors include his wife, Edwana of 46 years; in-laws, Rene (Harriett) Senecaut, Dan (Lori) Senecaut, Charene (Larry) Starcevic; sisters, Marjorie Nelson and Carolyn Cowie; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. Services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home followed by burial at Oakwood Cemetery in Pleasant Hill.
