Mrs. West, Pioneer, dies at home here
Funeral Friday at the Residence.

Funeral services for Mrs. Jerusha A. West, 86 years old, pioneer resident of Des Moines, who died yesterday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Addie Davison, 1409 East Walnut Street, will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the residence.

Further services will be held at 3 o'clock at the Wesley Methodist Episcopal church of which Mrs. West was a life long member. Interment will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. West was a resident of Polk county for seventy-eight years having come to Saylorville with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Howard in the spring of 1846. The trip was made overland by ox teams from Indianapolis, Ind.

RODE FIRST TRAIN.

Mrs. West rode on the first train which arrived in Des Moines in 1867. A free excursion to Newton was arranged by the railroad company.

She was a charter member of the Kinsman post, W.R.C., members of which are requested to attend the funeral at the church tomorrow. She was very active in church work at the Wesley Methodist Episcopal church and in the W. C. T. U.

THREE GRANDCHILDREN.

She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Addie Davison of Des Moines; one son, J.W. West of Rock Rapids, Ia., one sister, Eliza McMichael; one brother, Gabriel Howard of Saylorville; and three grandchildren, Mrs. R.L. McLaren, Ruth Davison and William West, Jr.
