Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Saints John and Paul Catholic Church for William I. Catron, 72, of Mitchellville, who died of a heart attack Tuesday at Mercy Hospital Medical Center. Burial will be in Altoona Cemetery.
Mr. Catron was born in Kimball, Kan., and lived in Mitchellville for six years. He previously lived in Altoona. He retired in 1976 from the Polk County road maintenance department and was a member of the Catholic Church, American Legion Post 155 and Operating Engineers Union Local 234.
Surviving are his wife, Rose; four sons, Richard of St. Louis, Mo.; and Darel, Howard and Charles, all of Des Moines; three daughters, Esther Rogers of Altoona, Linda Green of Mitchellville and Ellen Kramer of Temple Hills, Md.; two stepsons, Staff Sgt. Carl Sells, stationed with the military at Camp Lejeune, N.C.; and Stephen Sells of Des Moines; two sisters, Mildred Warren of Concord, Calif., and Roberta Frank of Union City, Calif.; four brothers, Wes of Mingo, Arthur Lowell of Lewiston, Mo., Robert of Orlando, Fla.; and Harold of Indianola; 19 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Friends may call after 2 p.m. Thursday at Altoona Funeral Home, where a rosary will be recited at 8:15 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to his church.
