Mrs. Wissler is Dead at 78
Mrs. Arlene D. Wissler, 78, of Hotel Commodore, 3440 Grand Ave., died Thursday afternoon at Mercy Hospital of a two-week illness.
She was the wife of William E. Wissler, who was president of the Herring-Wissler Co., automotive parts and equipment firm, for many years. Wissler is now retired.
The firm was sold to the Sidles Co. of Omaha, Neb., in 1950. The late Clyde L. Herring, former governor of Iowa, was president of the firm before he entered politics.
Mrs. Wissler was born in New York state and lived here 35 years. She was a member of the Order of Beauceant, the Des Moines Women’s Club, and the Plymouth Congregational Church.
Service will be Saturday at Dunn’s funeral home, with burial at Masonic Cemetery. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Wissler is survived by two daughters, Mrs. E. Grant Hickman of Bradenton, Florida, and Mrs. Jack Aylor of Las Vegas, Nev., and nine grandchildren.
