Dean C. Lively, age 74, passed away Tuesday, September 28 at Mercy Hospice - Johnston after a courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Saturday at Hamilton's Southtown Funeral Home with burial following at Sunset Memorial Gardens. A visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
Dean will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, husband, and son. Dean was born August 17, 1936 in Waterloo, Iowa to Margaret and Delbert Lively. He graduated from East High School in Waterloo and married Ruth Melcher in 1956. To this union was born Dennis, Lisa, and Michael. Dean married Lynn Vesterse on November 10, 1984. Dean worked and retired from Central States Theaters after 42 years of service. He was the manager of the last drive-in theater in the Des Moines area, the SE 14th Street Drive-In.
Dean's loves in life were his family, bowling, the Iowa Hawkeyes, and a good movie.
Dean is survived by wife Lynn; his mother, Margaret of Urbandale (formerly of Waterloo); son, Dennis; daughter, Lisa (Mike) Kinnear; and son, Michael (Lily) of Shenzen, China. Also left to cherish his memory are grandchildren, Amy (Mike) Davis, Michael (Ashley) Lively, Camden Lively, and Vanessa (Ryan) Warren; great-grandchildren, Daniel and Aidan Davis, Hailey Jo and Michael Lively; and his beloved constant canine companion, Max.
He was preceded in death by his father, Delbert.
The family would like to thank the Mercy 8 North and the Mercy Hospice - Johnston nurses and volunteers for providing comfort to Dean and his family during his final days.
