Ronald L. Brandenburg, 69, passed away in his home on Thursday, August 26, 2010 of natural causes.
Ron, was born June 17, 1941 in Cherokee, IA to Herb and Doris Brandenburg. He graduated from Western Dubuque High School in Epworth, IA, and later served in the United States Navy. After earning an honorable discharge, he moved to West Sacramento where he met his wife, Jean, of 40 years. Together with his family, he moved back to Epworth, then finally residing in Ankeny, IA. Ron retired from Qwest Communications where he earned numerous merit awards.
Active in the Boy Scouts of America, he thoroughly enjoyed camping and fishing with his troop. Fiercely loyal to his family, he selflessly and lovingly cared for his ailing wife until she passed in 2009.
Ron is survived by his mother, Doris; son, Michael Brandenburg; step-sons, Richard West and David Hicks; step-daughters, Carol Hildebrand, Patricia Nelson, Anne Hampshire, and Jennifer Farrar; daughter-in-law, Crystle Brandenburg; step-daughter-in-law, Nancy West. Ron is also survived by his grandchildren, Wesley Brandenburg, Tabitha Brandenburg, Autumn Haus, Ocean Sheriff, and Shelby Gillespie; step-grandchildren, Cara Hildebrand, Clint Hildebrand, Caleb Hildebrand, Laura Nelson, Grant Nelson, Katie Hampshire, Daniel West, Aaron West; step-great-grandchildren, Jalen Hildebrand, Makai Hildebrand, Patrick Reeves-Crabb, Ashten Haus, Melody Haus.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean, his father, Herb, and one step-son, Victor West.
A memorial service will be held at Ankeny Christian Church on Thursday, September 2, 2010, at 10 a.m., with burial following at Ankeny Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Food Bank of Iowa.
