Waldo Otto Bargmann, 88, died Saturday, September 19, 2009, at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 26, 2009, at Faith Lutheran Church, 10395 University Avenue, Clive, IA. Burial will be at 3 p.m., at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery in Davenport, IA. His family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, September 25, at Iles Funeral Homes - Westover Chapel, 6337 Hickman Road, Des Moines.

Waldo Otto Bargmann was born November 21, 1920, in Davenport, IA, the son of Minnie Gamber and Otto G. Bargmann. Waldo was raised in Davenport and graduated from the University of Iowa. In 1944, he was united in marriage to Lenore Tjebben. He faithfully served his country in the US Navy during World War II. In 1946, he returned to Davenport and began his career at John Deere. From 1958 to 1968 Waldo relocated his family to Heidelberg, Germany where he was responsible for John Deere's European operations. In 1968 he returned to Iowa and settled in Des Moines. Waldo worked for John Deere for 37 years and retired as General Manager of the Des Moines Works in 1983.

Waldo was very active and involved with his community and with Faith Lutheran Church, of which he was a charter member. He was a former board member of Greater Des Moines Committee, Greater Des Moines Chamber of Commerce, Central Iowa United Way, Des Moines Center of Science and Industry, Junior Achievement of Central Iowa, Living History Farms, Governor's Economy Committee, Valley National Bank (now US Bank), Iowa Power (now Mid American Energy), Iowa Lutheran Hospital and Luther Park Health Care Foundation.

Waldo is survived by his sons, Jay Bargmann and Cindy Potash of Pelham, NY and Joel and Carolyn Hendrie Bargmann of Lincoln, MA; and five grandchildren, Jane, Sarah, Leslie, Alex and Julia Bargmann. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lenore in 1998; and his sister, Lydia Horn of Davenport.
