Services for Virgil G. Howard, 77, of 912 SW Titus Ave. will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Dahlstrom Funeral Home. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery.

Mr. Howard died of cancer Monday at Iowa Lutheran Hospital.

Mr. Howard was born in Grimes and lived in Des Moines 45 years. A retired city maintenance worker, he was a member of the First Church of the Brethren and past president of the Municipal Laborers Union Local 353.

Survivors include a daughter, Doris Ackelson of Des Moines, a brother, Russell of Des Moines; three sisters, Esther Jaques of Grants Pass, OR, Inez Mally of Primghar and Anna Utsler of Winterset, and three grandchildren.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society.
