Diane Elizabeth Nandell, 66, of West Des Moines, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 following a brave struggle with adenocarcinoma. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, September 18, 2010 at Grace West Church, 6820 Ashworth Rd. West Des Moines with interment in Resthaven Cemetery.

Diane was born to Leon B. and Maxine L. Marsh on October 15, 1943 in Charles City, Iowa. She grew up on the family farmstead southwest of Marble Rock, IA., and was active in 4-H and Methodist Church Camp activities. She graduated from Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock High School in 1961.

Diane attended Wartburg College, the University of Iowa School of Journalism, and graduated with a B.A. in political science in 1967 from the University of Dubuque.

She married her husband of 43 years, Robert A. Nandell, on March 25, 1967, and the couple moved shortly thereafter to Milwaukee, WI. While living in Milwaukee the couple had two children, Kara, and David.

After moving back to Iowa in 1975, Diane worked as the Rockwell, IA office manager of the Southern County News.

She worked for 13 years in the Des Moines Register Circulation Accounting Dept., retiring in 1998.

Diane's interest in politics always stayed with her. In 2000 she served as the Iowa Volunteer Co-ordinator for the George W. Bush Presidential Campaign.

She later served as a legislative clerk in the Iowa House of Representatives in sessions from 2001 to 2004, and worked as a temporary secretary in the Iowa Dept. of Education.

After her husband retired in Dec. 2005, she enjoyed going on 'Jeep' trips to Colorado and Wisconsin, tending her flower gardens, watching the antics of her Basenji dogs, Pixel and Jpeg, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Diane was preceded in death by her father in 1974 and her mother in 2006.

She is survived by husband Robert, daughter Kara Berg (Philip), her son David Nandell (Heather); and four grandchildren, Andrew and Samantha Berg, Connor and Harrison Nandell.

Diane was a member of Grace West Church and was a certified Stephen Minister.

Her devotion to family and to The Lord were the centerpieces of her life.

Visitation with the family will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at McLaren's Chapel, 801 19th St., West Des Moines. Memorials may be directed to Mercy Hospice.
