Lonnie H. "Jake" McNew passed away peacefully with his family by his side, at VA Hospital in Dallas, Texas on August 1, 2010 at the age of 59.

He was born October 20, 1950 in Houston, MO to Frank and Ruth McNew and graduated from Lincoln High School in Des Moines. He joined the United States Marines and served active duty in Viet Nam. Lonnie was a brick mason and a member of Bricklayers local #3 in Des Moines. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and picking and grinning on the guitar with his family and friends.

Lonnie is survived by his daughter, Shannon (Joe) Means and grandsons, Taylor, Brandon, and Jake of Wills Point, Texas; his mother,Ruth McNew of Indianola, brothers, John (Becky) McNew, Joe McNew, Gary (Charlene) McNew, and sister, Sheryl McNew and many nieces and nephews and other friends and relatives. Preceding him in death were his grandparents, father, Frank McNew, brother, Steve McNew, and his dog and little buddy Simon.

Services will be Saturday August 7, at 1 p.m. at Brooks SouthTown Chapel at Sunset Memorial Gardens on Fleur Drive in Des Moines, with full military honors. A luncheon will follow immediately after at the chapel.
