Ernest "Ozzie" Bears, 74, of Goshen, IN, died at Vencor Hospital, LaGrange, IN, of an aneurysm on May 29, 1993.

Ozzie was born in Cainsville, March 11, 1919, to James W. and Elsie [Herron] Bears. He also graduated from Cainsville High School. He held the basketball scoring record for his school and went on to play for the Indiana All Stars. He was a World War II veteran and belonged to VFW.

On October 12, 1940, he married Betty Yoder, in Goshen, who survives him of the home. Other survivors include two daughters, Cheryl Bears, state of Arkansas, and Marcia Mitchell, Goshen; eight grandchildren; three sisters, Mary Nims, Scottsdale, AZ, Ruth Mullins, Mercer, and Lucile Utsler, Des Moines, IA.

He was preceded in death by a son, Bruce, in 1968, as well as a sister and brother.

Services were held June 2, 1993, at the First Presbyterian Church, with burial in the Violett Cemetery, in Goshen. Memorials may be directed to the church or Goshen Hospital Foundation.
