Maxine Lorraine Burton, 78, passed from this life on Wednesday morning, April 28, 2010, after a long courageous battle with thyroid cancer, surrounded by family at the Madrid Home in Madrid.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 3, at Iles Funeral Homes, Sundberg-Kirkpatrick Chapel in Madrid. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, south of Madrid.

Maxine was born on September 20, 1931 to Fred McKinley and Daisy May(Hammond)Howard. She married Albert "Ab" Burton on May 5, 1956 and was a life long resident of Madrid. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 260. Maxine loved spending time with her family, especially Sunday morning coffee. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed reading,cross stitching, putting together puzzles, fishing and taking trips to Hawaii.

She is survived and lovingly remembered by her children, Bill (Christie) Charo, Don Burton, and Brian (Suzi) Burton all of Madrid, and Brenda (Doug) Houser of Slater; siblings, Bob (Ruth) Howard of Madrid, Kenneth (Lois) Howard of Las Vegas, NV, and Phyllis Johnson also of Madrid; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of many nieces, nephews and friends. Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, Ab Burton; parents; sister, Margene Shearer; and brother-in-law, Mel Johnson.

Visitation will be held after 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 2, at the funeral home, where the family will greet friends from 4 to 6 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the Maxine L. Burton Memorial Fund.
