Alma M. (Wheeler) Porter, born June 9, 1910, passed away June 9, 2009 at the age of 99. Alma was born, raised and lived her entire 99 years in and around the Ankeny area.
She was one of seven children born to Sam and Olive Wheeler, who also lived, farmed, and raised their family in the Ankeny area.
Alma is preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Olive Wheeler, her brother, Chuck and all of her other siblings who died in childhood, her eldest son, Raymond Goff, step-son, Myron Goff, son-in-law, John Kelly; grandson, Gene Goff; and countless friends and neighbors. She is survived by her eldest daughter, Norma Kelly of Carrollton, Texas; son and daughter-in-law, Everett and Peggy Goff of Des Moines, Iowa; daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Don Bishop of Plano, Texas; daughter-in-law, Della Westring of Minneapolis, Minnesota; sister-in-law, Virginia Wheeler of Ames, Iowa; three nephews, 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday June 11 at Ankeny Funeral Home(1510 W. 1st St. Ankeny, IA). Services celebrating her life will be 10 a.m., Friday, June 12, 2009 at Ankeny Funeral Home with interment following at Oralabor Cemetery, where her body will rest beside those of her parents.
