Des MoinesMerrill "Gene" Waller,84, of the 800 block of East 25th Street died of cancer Saturday at Fleur Heights Care Center. Services will be at 11 a.m. Oct.2 at Sunset Funeral Chapel, with burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Mr. Waller was born in Clear Lake and had lived in Des Moines since 1940. He was a retired carpenter with Taylor Refrigeration, an Army veteran of World War II and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Carpenters union. He enjoyed golf, fishing and gardening.
He is survived by a daughter, Sharon Leishman of Brigham City, Utah; two sons, Raymond of Tucson, Ariz., and Merrill of Chicago; a sister, Merrilyn Waller of El Cahone, Calif.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn.
Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Sunset Funeral Chapel.
