IOWA STATE REGISTER, Friday, August 26, 1881

REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE:

CAPT. I. W. GRIFFITH

Re-nominated for Governor, is likewise an Ohio man, having been born in Trumbull county in 1820. All of the old settlers know of Capt. Griffith's services in the Mexican War. In 1848, he settled in Lee county, and was a member of the Second Iowa Legislature from that county. He went to Washington in 1850 and was three years Assistant Doorkeeper of the Senate. In 1852 he became Register of the Land Office in Des Moines, and was removed in 1861. In it is unnecessary to enlarge upon Capt. Griffith's long public services in Des Moines, for they speak for themselves. He will do his full share this fall to insure the sweeping success of the ticket at the polls.
