REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE:

D. A. KENT

Was born in Harrison county, Ohio, Oct 31st, 1848. He has been a resident of Polk county, for the past 17 years. He followed the business of farming until he was 21 years old, when he was admitted into the Agricultural College, at Ames, where he graduated in 1873, since which time he has been engaged in the business of farming and stock-raising. Owing to his success as a teacher has been solicited to teach the school in his home district during the winter, so that in all he has taught 14 terms of school. For the past year he has been principal of the Polk City schools. He is a good disciplinarian and thorough organizer. Always labors hard to accomplish whatever he undertakes. Having always 'paddled his own canoe', he has all that discipline peculiar to a self-made man. And the people of Polk county will find in the person of Mr. Kent a live, active and energetic County Superintendent.
