G. A. Gruver Rites
Funeral services for G. A. Gruver were held in the Methodist church Sunday afternoon with the Rev. Wm. Bohl officiating. Mrs. Paul Larson and Mrs. Eugene Dyvig of Pocahontas, accompanied at the organ by Wm. Mekemson, sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere". Pall bearers were Dale Spiker, Harold Hauswirth, Harold Shimon, Henry and Joe Edge and George E. Johnson. Burial was in Washington cemetery.

Gus A. Gruver, son of Emma and Perry Gruver, was born in Greene county, Sept. 26, 1876, and died Oct. 23 at the age of 82 years. When a boy, he moved with his parents to Palo Alto county, locating near Emmetsburg. Later the family moved near Gowrie, where they lived for many years. On Mar. 18, 1894, he was united in marriage to Charlotte E. Johnston. To this union were born three children, a daughter and two sons. One son died in infancy. The family lived in Webster county about four years, after which they moved to Palo Alto county, living near Mallard and Emmetsburg for a number of years. In 1906 they moved to Pocahontas county and in 1926 the family moved to Havelock. In 1943 his wife died and since that time his daughter, Mrs. Pearl Mick, has made a home for him. He was an ardent sportsman. He became blind about seven years ago and in May he suffered a heart attack. He was a member of the IOOF and Knights of Phythias lodges, and for many years served on the city council. He was the last member of a large family, being preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and four sisters.

Survivors include his daughter, Mrs. Pearl Mick and son, Ray Gruver of Havelock, nieces and nephews nearby are Mrs. Alvin Ehn of Pomeroy, Perry Wood of Fort Dodge and Irvin Gurney and Mrs. Oscar Madson of Farnhamville. Relatives from a distance attending were, Mrs. Lola Gruver of Welcome, Minn; Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Madson of Farnhamville and Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Gurney of Slifer.
