Last week the news came to Fonda that Henry Kearns had died at his home in Varina, bringing with it all the sadness and sorrow that such a message always carries in its wake. Eighteen years ago he came to the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Kearns a tiny babe, and brought with him all the brightness and happiness of his baby ways and laughter, and winning all hearts with his frank and boyish manner as he grew older. He went to school in Varina. Frank, honest, and sunny hearted, he won the respect and liking accorded to those qualities be they possessed by man or boy, by everyone. and many hearts were heavy with sorrow when the news went forth that his life was in danger and many were the tears that fell when it was known that the dread appendicitis had conquered. He was ill only a few days and altho everything was done, it was impossible to save his life, and surrounded by those nearest and dearest to him, he bid farewell to life and love, and quietly went out across the sea of glass, enveloped in the rosy mist of the possibilities of the splendid manhood he was to never know.
The funeral was held from the Catholic Church. Burial at the Catholic Cemetery near Varina, Iowa.
He is survived by his father John (son of Patrick and Catherine Lynch Kearns) his mother Mary (daughter of Patrick and Margaret Cosgrove Murray), his sister Jennie Kearns and brothers Patick and Ray Kearns.
