The community was shocked to learn that J. A. Ryon had passed away at his home near Oakes, ND although it was known that he had not been in the best of health all winter. His son A.D. Ryon started immediately to help bring the remains back to Laurens for burial. They arrived here on the one o'clock train and the funeral was held in the Methodist Church conducted by the pastor, Rev. Gerkin.
Mr. Ryon was born Apr. 27, 1836 in Wayne Co. PA. At the age of 2 moved to IL and there he grew to manhood and married Lizzie Dunbar. To this union were born 4 children: Mrs. Lizzie Craig of Oakes, ND., A.D., Hugh L., and Jay Ryon all of Laurens.
John and Lizzie moved to Laurens in 1884. In 1909 he invested heavily in North Dakota land and moved to Oakes, ND.
He is survived by his wife, mother, and children as mentioned above, 13 grandchildren and one brother, A.H. Ryon of Wakefield, Kansas.
Burial made in the Laurens cemetery.
