Services held for George Hoffman Monday

Memorial services for George A. Hoffman were held Monday, February 12 at the First Christian Church of Laurens. Mr. Hoffman died Friday. February 9, 2001, at Trinity Regional Hospital in Fort Dodge. He reached the age of 89 years, 11 months and 13 days. Mr. Hoffman was pictured in the February 8 Issue as the football player soon to observe his 90th birthday.

Rev. Sara Galindo officiated at the services. Tammy VanHorsen-Post was organist and soloist was Robert Nystrom. Honorary casket bearers were Robert Fuchs, Dwane Netsch, Lyle Lund, Roger Richardson, Carl Brown, Leland Grove, Bill Fuchs, and Bruce Lanning.

George A. Hoffman

George Arthur Hoffman was born February 24, 1911, at Boone, the son of Frank and Gertrude Northrup Hoffman. George was educated in Laurens schools, graduating from high school in 1929. He attended Buena Vista College in Storm Lake and Business College in Grand Island, Nebraska.

George married Josephine Hinn on July 27, 1935, at Mason City. The couple lived In Des Moines for a few years. In 1939, they moved to their farm northwest of Laurens. In 1973, George semi-retired from farming and he and Josephine moved into Laurens. They spent their winters In Texas.

George was a member of the First Christian Church and was a charter member of the Lions Club. He has served on many church and civic organizations.

He is survived by his wife. Josephine Hoffman of Laurens; son, Keith Hoffman of Laurens and daughter. Mary Jo, Mrs. Allen Schofield Lockhart of Boise, Idaho and two grandchildren.

George was preceded in death by a son. David; his parents and two brothers. Carl and Roland. Smith Loterbour Powers Funeral Home of Laurens was in charge of arrangements.
