The Gazette, February 20, 2005, Colorado Springs, Colorado. Bonnie J. Lanus, a resident of Colorado Springs since 1952, died on Wednesday, February 9, 2005. She was born November 3, 1916 to Harold and Dollie Wright in the farming community of Havelock, Iowa. Bonnie married her sweetheart, George P. Lanus, on February 14, 1939.
Bonnie attended schools in Iowa, graduating from Curlew High School, and later from Blair Business College. She also had lived in Nebraska and California, but spent most of her life in Colorado Springs. Family, friends and home were the center of her life. Flowers and gardening brought her endless pleasure, until failing health forced her to leave her home. Bonnie moved to The Medalion Retirement Center in November 2001. There she could continue to enjoy her favorite view: Pikes Peak. At The Medalion, she enjoyed the friendship of fellow residents, and assistance from the caring staff.
Bonnie is survived by her sister, Cleoda Knoblauch (Melvin) of Hopkins, MN; her two daughters: Virginia Quante (Frank) and GeorAnne Kasper (John); as well as six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Her beloved husband, George, died In January 1972. Their only son, James P. Lanus, died in June 1980.
To celebrate Bonnie's life, a memorial service will be held on Friday, February 25, 2005, at 1:30 p.m. in the Chapel of the Medalion Retirement Center, 1719 E. Bijou. Burial was held in Havelock, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Bonnie J. Lanus may be made to the Medalion Retirement Community, 1719 E. Bijou Street, Colorado Springs, CO 80909, or to your favorite charity.
