Services for Leone Hawley held Aug. 4

Leone L. Hawley died Wednesday, August 1 at the Pocahontas Community Hospital following a massive cerebral hemorrhage on Monday evening. Mrs. Hawley was 83 years, 2 months and 24 days of age.

Funeral services were held Saturday morning, August 4 at the United Methodist Church of Laurens. Pastor Roy Lewis officiated at the services.

Florence Pohlman was organist. Special music was a vocal duet by Kathie Appleton and Jayne Woodin who sang "Beautiful Garden of Prayer" and "I Know Who Holds Tomorrow". Charles Appleton played the Trumpet and Florence Pohlman the piano in an instrumental duet of "Amazing Grace".

Pall bearers were Dave Woodin, Dan Woodin, Charles Appleton, Bret Appleton, Fred Hawley, Bill Grice, and Dale Larson. Interment was in the Laurens Cemetery with arrangements under the care of the Smith Funeral Home.

Leone L. Hawley

Leone Louise Davidson Hawley was born May 8, 1907 on a farm near Curlew, the daughter of Joseph Ray and Blanche Marker Davidson. After graduating from the Laurens High School in 1925, she was employed at the United States Post Office in Laurens until her marriage to Charles F. Hawley on June 1, 1927 in Laurens.

Leone was a member of the Laurens United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Past Matron and a 50 year member of the Laurens Chapter # 265, Order of Eastern Star, Stitchers and several card clubs.

She is survived by two daughters, Gretchen, Mrs. Don Woodin of Laurens and Jane, Mrs. Jay Appleton of Sedalla, Missouri; son, L. J. "Bud" Hawley of Laurens; 8 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; three sisters, Vera, Mrs. Monroe Weed of Devils Lake, North Dakota; Berniece Lilly of Wheeling, Illinois; and Mary Mills of Geneva, Illinois.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles in 1974, an infant daughter, Wanda June, her parents and two brothers, Harold and Raymond Davidson.
