Rites Held Thursday Afternoon At Methodist Church

Funeral services for Mrs. Hettie B. Hawley, 80, pioneer resident of the Laurens community who died Dec. 9 at the Buena Vista County hospital at Storm Lake after an illness of about six weeks, were held Thursday at 1:45 p.m. at the Hitchcock-McKee Funeral Home and at 2 o'clock at the Laurens Methodist church. The Rev. R. P. Phillips officiated, assisted by the Rev. H. O. Ward. A quarter composed of Mrs. Fred Forsythe, Mrs. Amos Hertz, N. I. Morness and Clarence Morgan, sang "Rock of Ages" and "Crossing the Bar." Mrs. Warren M. Hile was organist.

Pall bearers were F. C. Gilchrist Jr., Glenn S. Kees, Roy Rubel, F. E. Siddall, C. A. Wessman and Jake Ziegler, all of Laurens. Burial was in the Laurens cemetery.

Relatives and friends attended the funeral from Moose Lake, Minn.; Spencer, Mason City, Ware, Pocahontas, Fonda, Des Moines, Rolfe, Plover, Havelock, Varina, Marathon and Albert City as well as from the Laurens community.

Born in Kansas

Henrietta Belle Boekenoogen, daughter of Charles Frederick and Martha Elizabeth Boekenoogen, was born July 21, 1872, at Coffeyville, Kans. She attended Monroe high school in Jasper county, Iowa, and Central college at Pella, and taught school in Marshall township.

On Nov. 17, 1893, she was united in marriage to Fred K. Hawley of Marshall township. During their entire married life they resided in the Laurens community, except for a time in 1912 and 1913 When they lived at Santa Barbara, Calif. They were the .parents of two children, both of whom survive. Mr. Hawley died July 28, 1945.

Mrs. Hawley was a member of the Laurens Methodist church, the Laurens Woman's club and the Eastern Star. She was active in church and community affairs and had served for a number of years as a member of the Laurens park board.

Survivors include a son, Charles F. Hawley of Laurens; a daughter, Mrs. Martha Hawley Huddleston of New York, N. Y.; a grandson, Leland J. Hawley of Laurens; two granddaughters, Mrs. Donald Woodin and Jane Hawley of Laurens; and three great-grandchildren, Cynthia Lee and Frederick K. Hawley and Danny Lee Woodin.
