A.P. Runneberg (Anders) was born in Blekinge Sweden, February 17, 1832 and died in Chicago, August 24, 1915, aged 83 years, 6 months and 7 days. He spent his early manhood in the old country and there he married Elsie Larson in 1853. In 1869 he came to America and settled at Galesburg, Illinois but three years later he moved to Paxton, the same state where he resided until 1893 when he came to Laurens to make his home with his sons, Nels and Andrew.

To Mr. and Mrs. Runneberg were born nine children, three of whom have preceded their parents. They are Celia who died in middle age, John who died when 15 years old and Albert who was but one year old. The children living are Peter, Salina, Kansas; Louis, Paxton, Illinois; Nels and Andrew, Laurens, Iowa; Swan, Crosby, Texas; and Emma, Mrs. Gust Anderson, Curlew, Iowa. Besides these there are several grandchildren. The wife died in 1899 and was laid to rest in the Laurens cemetery.

Mr. Runneberg was a farmer in Sweden and followed the same occupation in this country. He was a strong active man until about ten years ago. He was assisting in loading baled hay when several bales fell upon him injuring his spine, since which time he was unable to walk and had to be taken about in a wheeled chair. He was taken to Chicago where he could receive better care than it was possible to give him here. He bore his affliction with great patience.

He was a kind considerate father and is kindly remembered by all who came in contact with him. The doctor who attended him in the hospital in Chicago expressed the sentiments of all who knew him when he said, “He was a good man.” The body was brought here last Thursday and the funeral held from the Swedish Lutheran Church in the afternoon. He was buried beside his wife in the Laurens cemetery.
