Mrs. Mae Roewe, 86, buried Friday at Laurens Cemetery

A resident of the Laurens community for over 80 years was buried here Friday following services at the United Methodist Church. Mrs. Mae Roewe, 86, who was born in Rolfe and lived her entire life in the county, died last Wednesday at the Pocahontas Community Hospital following an extended illness. Services were held at the Methodist Church here with the Rev. Mervin R. Nelson officiating. Ron Gumnare, accompanied by Mrs. H. M. Pohlman, sang "How Great Thou Art" and "The Lord's Prayer" at the services.

Burial was at the Laurens Cemetery, with L. J. Hawley, Robert Hawley, Robert Dubbert, H. M. Pohlman, Robert Mather and Charles Mather serving as pall bearers. Hitchcock Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Roewe was born May 10, 1884, and was educated in schools in this area, moving to Marshall Township with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Hawley, as a child. She later attended Central College at Pella, and then taught school in Marshall Township. She later was a postal clerk in Laurens before her marriage to Fred Roewe, March 9, 1911, in Laurens. Mrs. Roewe was a member of the United Methodist Church, held a life membership Church, in the Woman's Society of Christian Service and had belonged to the Order of Eastern Star for more than 50 years.

She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Harry (Rachel) Morgan of Glenview, 111.; three sons, August, Henry and Joe, all of Laurens; 12 grandchildren and one great- grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1968, four brothers and five sisters.
