Ben Mather, Old Laurens Boy Buried at Iowa City

Ben Mather, son of Will Mather, died at his home in a suburb of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Friday night. The body was shipped to Iowa City, where the funeral was held at the Presbyterian church Tuesday afternoon.

Ben was born and grew to manhood in the Laurens community. He was graduated from the Laurens high school in 1911 and later from the University of Iowa. While in both high school and college, he took an active part in oratorical work and represented the Laurens high school once in the state declamatory contest.

He was 43 years old, married, but leaves no children, only the widow.

Those from here who attended the funeral were his brother Ray and wife and daughter and son, Mary and Bob; his sister, Mrs. Matt Donahue, husband and daughter Shirley; Bernard and Ulrich Dubbert.

Benjamin I Mather, husband of Mrs. Eugenia Mather, of 250 Haverford avenue, Swarthmore, died last night, following a long illness, Mr. Mather, a native of Iowa, came to this vicinity about nine years ago, where he was district representative of the International Correspondence School. For several years Mr. Mather lived in Chester and the nature of his work and personality made him many friends in this community.

Mr. Mather was a graduate of the University of Iowa, where he was active in forensic work, having the honor of having some of his college addresses published in national symposiums of such material. He was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. Interment will be at Iowa City, Tuesday.
