Ned Goodchild

Services were held Wednesday, Jan. 28 for Ned Goodchild, 87, of Havelock, who died Sunday, Jan. 25 at the Good Samaritan Center, Laurens. Services were held at United Methodist Church, Havelock, with interment in Washington Cemetery, Havelock.

Mr. Goodchild was born at Havelock and educated in the Havelock schools. He received the Purple Heart for wounds sustained in U.S. Army service in World War I. After discharge from the Army, Mr. Goodchild attended Iowa State College, Ames (now Iowa State University), and then was employed at Bachman Hardware Store in Havelock for many years. He also was custodian of the Methodist Church, in Havelock for many years.

Never married, Mr. Goodchild was a charter member of the American Legion Post of Havelock and had been a member for 63 years. Military grave side rites were conducted by the Legionnaires

He entered the Good Samaritan Center in 1979.

Among the survivors are a number of nieces and nephews, including Mrs. Jay Stole, Garner, and Mrs. Annette Green, West Bend.
