Funeral services for Belle Brewster; burial in Laurens

Funeral services were held Thursday at the Hitchcock Funeral Home here for Mrs. Belle Brewster, 83, with burial following at the Laurens Cemetery. Mrs. Brewster died at the Dickinson County Hospital at Spirit Lake Oct. 4. The Rev. E. E. Pencock, pastor of the Methodist Church here, officiated at the services. Music was provided by Mrs. Amos Hertz, soloist, with Mrs. Dean Dudley accompanying. Mrs. Hertz sang "How Great Thou Art" and "What A Friend We Have in Jesus."

Belle Eliza Belden, daughter of John and Ida Belden, was born and spent her early years at Rodney where she attended school. On Sept. 20, 1905, she was united in marriage to Ethan Elbert Brewster at Rodney and two years later moved to Laurens. They later lived in Rolfe about three years and Woodbine three years before returning to Laurens in 1921. Mrs. Brewster was a member years, and the Laurens Methodist Church here since 1921.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1959; her parents; two sons, Paul and Elbert; a daughter, Lydia; two sisters and one brother.

Surviving are a son, LeRoy of Newell; a daughter, Mrs. Harold Hakeman of Waukee; two sisters, Mrs. Emma Johnson of Sioux Rapids and Mrs. Gretchen Kitterman of St. David, Ariz.; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were John Perkins, Herman Rubel, Lawo Sorensen. Gene Osier, Harry Rice and Basil Billows.

Belle Brewster, 83, dies at Spirit Lake; funeral rites today Mrs. Belle Brewster, 83, longtime Laurens resident, died Monday evening at Dickinson County Hospital, Spirit Lake, where she had been a patient about a week. She had been a resident of the Dr. Hovenden Memorial Good Samaritan Home here for the last three years.

Funeral services will be at 2 p. m. today (Thursday) at the Hitchcook Funeral Home, with burial in the Laurens Cemetery.

Mrs. Brewster is survived by a son, LeRoy Brewster of Newell; a daughter, Mrs. Harold Hakeman of Waukee; six grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. Her husband, E.E. Brewster, died in 1959
