Arnold Wallace Runneberg, eldest son of Nels and Alma Swenson Runneberg, was born May 29, 1901, northeast of Laurens, and passed away at his home in Laurens on January 5, 1979, at the age of 77 years, 7 months, and 7 days.
Mr. Runneberg was raised in the Laurens area and attended rural school northeast of Laurens. In 1921, he was united in marriage to Kathryn Alborn in services in Laurens and they spent 46 years farming in the Laurens community, except for seven years of farming near Rossie. Mr. Runneberg was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Grace Masonic Lodge, Sioux City Consistory, Abu Bekr Shrine, Laurens Chapter O.E.S., the Knights of Pythias, and served as a member of the board of directors of the Farmers Cooperative Elevator of Laurens for many years.
Survivors include his wife; three children, Melvin Arnold, Laurens; Mildred LaVon (Mrs. Wesley Hagedorn), Royal; and Marilyn Alice (Mrs. Lloyd Washburn), Minneapolis; 10 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lawrence, Spirit Lake, Emmitt, Laurens; and one sister, Alice (Mrs. Everett Bohn), of Curlew. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Petunia and Florence, and more recently his brother Carl.
