Mary Wolf-Schroeder married Henry Schroeder in 1875 in Chelsea, Iowa. The family came to Pocahontas County in 1882 to establish their farm. There were no roads in the county at that time. Because of delayed mail delivery, Henry was not at Pomeroy to meet the train when Mary and their three children arrived. She walked from Pomeroy, carrying one of the three, through the swamps of undeveloped northwest Iowa toward Pocahontas. The farm was located in Center Township four and a half miles north and one mile east of Pocahontas.

Six of their thirteen children survive her, - John, Mayme, William, Henry, Emma, and Frank. Anna died in 1948. Six children died in infancy. Two brothers also survive her, Frank Wolfe (80) of Chelsea and Joe Wolfe (91) of Pocahontas. She had one son (Frank) and one grandson who served in World War I and three grandsons in World War II. Mary was an active member of the American Legion from 1930 to 1943.

A solemn requiem High Mass was conducted on Monday, May 15 at Saints Peter and Paul's Catholic Church in Pocahontas. Rev. Fr. G. Barry was the celebrant of the High Mass and the sermon. Rev. Fr M. J. Kolvek of Lohrville was the deacon. Rev. Fr. Vincent Beacon of Sheldon was the sub-deacon and the Rev. Fr. Henry Karhoff was master of ceremonies. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery in Pocahontas.
