Edward Lilly, a well known resident and substantial farmer of Dover Twnshp, was found dead, near the roadside, a short distance west of his farm home. One of a crew of thrashers at work on a neighboring farm, found him and notified the people at the Lilly farm. Dr. Prath, Varina, was called and arrived as soon as possible and examined the body to find that the neck had been broken from a fall. Edward S. Lilly, was the eldest son of Joseph and Mary Fanning Lilly and was sixty-five years of age, and in good health. He was born in Fairfield County, Ohio, May 17, 1839. When 16 years of age his parents moved to Linn County, Iowa. On October 22, 1868, he was united in marrage to Geneva Beuter, and located on a farm in Johnson County. In 1888 they came to Pocahontas County and settled in Dover Township. He was a thrifty farmer and he continued to add to his acres until he became the owner of three farms in Dover Township. His family consisted of 6 children, all of whom with his loving wife survive him. Joseph resides in Cedar Rapids; Thomas, Raymond of Fort Dodge; Arthur, in this county and Agnes and Annie at home. He also leaves 3 brothers, Theodore and Ellias, farmers in Dover Township; John of Fonda and a sister, Mrs. Rebecca Denman of Cedar Rapids. Mr. Lilly, was a man esteemed by all for his many good qualities. His home was at all times open to his friends and he was ever ready and willing to aid a good cause. The funeral occurred Tuesday morning at the North Catholic church and the attendance was the largest ever witnessed in that vicinity. (October 1, 1904)
