GONE TO HER REWARD

Tuesday morning of this week at 4:15 o'clock occurred the death of Mrs. E.E. Thompson, at her home near the Milwaukee depot, after an illness extending over about two weeks, the cause of her demise being cancer of the lower bowels. As stated in the paper last week her death had been expected for several days and the family had all been called to her bedside, knowing that she could not long survive the dread disease which was rapidly sapping her vitality. She suffered intense pain most of the time, but she bore her affliction uncomplainingly. Though her death was a sad blow to her beloved family of children, it came as a welcome relief from pain that could not be assuaged.

Evaline Emma George was born near the village of Jacksonville, Indiana county, Pennsylvania, September 5, 1833, and died at Fonda, Iowa, Tuesday, June 17, 1913, being therefore 79 years, nine months and 12 days of age, many years past the alloted three score and ten. She spent her childhood and young womanhood where she was born, and where on May 5, 1853, she was united in marriage to George Thompson a native of that county. Six of her seven children were born there. On December 31, 1866, she with her husband and family moved to Mercer county, Illinois. Three years later, November 1869 the family moved to Iowa locating at Redfield, and the next year moved to Pocahontas county locating on a homestead on section 18, Cedar township. Here her husband died August 20, 1891, and in 1894 she moved to Fonda locating in the home where she died.

Mrs. Thompson was the mother of seven children, five sons and two daughers, all of whom were at the bedside of their mother when the last call came, and several days previously. They are: Cyrus S., who has lived with his mother since the death of her husband; Mrs. Fanny Sayre, Sayre, Oklahoma; George P., Clarksville, Iowa; Harry C., Lewistown, Montana; James H., Fonda, Iowa; John A., Varina, Iowa, and Mrs. Eugene Herrington, Sioux City, Iowa. There are also eight grand children and one great grand child.

Mrs. Thompson at an early age became a communicant of the United Presbyterian church while a resident of Pennsylvania, and remained a consistent christian woman until the time of her death, though she never affiliated with any church after coming to Iowa. All who knew her best knew her as a woman of deep religious convictions, a good wife and a kind and loving mother, who loved simplicity and despised all pomp and things that were hypocritical in life. Her devotion to her family was very marked and this devotion was reciprocated by them.

The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30, from the house, this being her special request, Rev. J.H. Tice, pastor of the Presbyterian church, officiating, preaching a very touching sermon on the life and character of this good woman. Interment was made in the Cedar cemetery in the family lot beside her departed husband.

The family have the sympathy of all in their sad bereavement.

May she rest in peace.
