Mrs. P.H. Sherman
Jerusha L. Smith was born in Cattaraugus county, New York, on November 19, 1839, and died at 5 o'clock on the morning of Wednesday 15, 1905, at her home in Rolfe. She was married to Perry H. Sherman in 1856, and to this union were born eight children, six of whom are living. J.P., F.H. and Fred are in business in Rolfe, Mrs. O.B. Fuller also resides here, Nellie is living at Steele, N. Dakota, and B.H. is practicing medicine at Dexter, Iowa.

In 1865 Mrs. Sherman moved with her husband to Jones county, Iowa, and they resided there until fifteen years ago, when they moved to Pocahontas county. For many years they resided on a farm just at the north edge of town, but in the spring of 1902 moved to Rolfe. P.H. Sherman died May 2, 1902, and since that time some member of the family has resided with Mrs. Sherman at her home in Rolfe. Over two years ago she was stricken with paralysis and soon became unable to walk. A chair was procured for her and she was wheeled about town until her condition became such that she was unable to stand the rides. For the last month she failed very rapidly and for the last 48 hours was entirely unconscious.

All the living children were present at the funeral except Nellie. The services were conducted this morning at 10 o'clock at the home by Rev. McEwen of the Presbyterian church, of which Mrs. Sherman was a member, and interment was made in Clinton cemetery.
