McBeth

Died at the home of his son John (S) McBeth four miles south of Fonda on Feb. 28, 1899.

John McBeth was 69 years of age. He was born October 17, 1829 at Morayshire near the City of Elgin, Scotland. He was the son of Alexander and Anna McBeth. In 1850, John McBeth married Miss Wilamina Stuart. In 1854 they came to the United States. From 1854 to 1868 John McBeth and his family resided near Lambertsville, New Jersey. In 1868, they came to Marathon, Iowa. In 1893, the family moved to Williams Township south of Fonda, Iowa.

Mr. McBeth was a member of the Presbyterian Church. John McBeth was preceded in death by one daughter Isabella (Belle) Moote of Manson, Iowa.

Mr. McBeth is survived by his wife and four children. : Willamina (Stuart) McBeth of Fonda, Iowa; Mathilda (Annie) McBeth Richardson of Dayton, Iowa; James McBeth of Hebron, Nebraska; John S. McBeth of Williams Township, Calhoun County, Iowa and Elizabeth (Lizzie) McBeth Horton of Prairie, Oklahoma.

Rev. John MacAllister of the Presbyterian Church officiated at the funeral. John McBeth was interred at Cedar Township Cemetery in Fonda, Iowa.

The cause of death was "wasting of the bowels."

Today, (2006) it would probably be colon cancer.
