In Response To: Richard Henry Schultz (JBHetrick)

I located quite a few articles about the accident. Richard Schultz died on April 21, 1945 and not in March. The link I am attaching from the Lyon County Reporter in Rock Rapids, Iowa is the most comprehensive containing quite a bit of detail. Hope this helps.

Little Rock, Ia. -- Richard Schultz, 9, was killed Saturday by a Rock Island passenger train on a trestle near here. The boy had been playing on the bridge with two companions, both of whom escaped injury.

BOY ON TRESTLE KILLED BY TRAIN
LITTLE ROCK, IA -- Richard Schultz, 9, was run over and killed at 3:30 p. m. Saturday by an eastbound Rock Island passenger train on a trestle a half mile northwest of Little Rock; Two playmates, Lawrence Nachtigal and Harvey Mulder, leaped from the trestle to safety. Richard was the son of Mrs. Engelke Schultz of Little Rock. He is survived also by two sisters and a brother.

BOY ON TRESTLE KILLED BY TRAIN Two Other Lads Escape by Jumping from Bridge
Little Rock, Ia. Special: Death ended an unofficial boy scout hike when an eastbound Rock Island train bore down on three boys walking on a railroad trestle, killing Dickie Schultz, 9, Saturday afternoon, a quarter mile west of here. The other two boys, Harvey Mulder and Dwane Nachtigal, jumped from the bridge before the train struck. Details were meager because of the confusion in the minds of the surviving boys, who became hysterical after the accident. The dead boy was the son of Mrs. Engelke Schultz. Two sisters and a brother also survive. Coroner A. Lockwood of Rock Rapids, coroner of Lyons county, began an investigation.
