Alfred DeRaad is Stricken While Driving His Car
Alfred V. DeRaad, 63, who lived at 400 Fifth Avenue SE., LeMars, died of an apparent heart attack Saturday evening, March 15 (1969).
Relatives said he was driving his car, accompanied by his wife and another couple, when he became ill. He was employed as a custodian at Pew's Inc.
He was assisted by the LeMars Fire department rescue squad and LeMars police and taken to Floyd Valley hospital, where he died several hours later. His death was unexpected, as he had not been ill.
He was born Sept. 20, 1905, at Maurice and was a retired farmer. He had lived in South Dakota for a short time and returned to Sioux county in 1915. He moved to Plymouth county in 1925 and had resided here since.
His marriage to Virla Cook took place at Seney, Dec. 31, 1930. His parents were the late John and Minnie Raak DeRaad.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at United Presbyterian church. Rev. James Ransom will officiate and burial will be in Resthaven cemetery near LeMars. The Mauer funeral home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors are his wife, Virla, LeMars; a son, Dean Ellis DeRaad, and a daughter, Mrs. Harold (Doris) Armstrong, both of Coffeeville (sic--Coffeyville), Kan.; seven grandchildren and a great-grandchild; three brothers, Marion of Hinton, Elmer and Vernon DeRaad, both of LeMars and two sisters, Mrs. Thomas (Myrtle) Madden, Pierson, and Mrs. Kermit (Viola) Fulton, LeMars.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother. Mr. DeRaad was a member of the United Presbyterian church in LeMars.
