Miss Cora Hughes Claimed By Death
Well Known Resident Here Since Girlhood

Miss Cora Hughes, 70, well known resident of LeMars for many years, died Friday at the Sacred Heart hospital. Miss Hughes had been in failing health of late, suffering from diabetes and complications, but was up and around until the day previous when she suffered a heart attack from which she never rallied.

Cora Hughes was born at Woodbine, Ill., and came when a girl to LeMars with her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. H. R. Hughes. Her father served in the Civil War. After farming in Plymouth county he came to LeMars and for many years was custodian at the court house and a janitor in the public schools.

Miss Hughes is survived by three brothers, Sherman and Frank Hughes of LeMars, George Hughes of Haxtun, Colo., and two sisters, Mrs. Will Casler, of LeMars and Mrs. Chris Henricksen of Alton and a large number of nephews and nieces. Three brothers and a sister preceded her in death.

The funeral was held Monday morning in the Methodist church, Rev. W. M. Hubbard officiating, and interment made in city cemetery with Mauer funeral home in charge.

Miss Hughes was a devout member of the Methodist church, a member of W. R. C and the W. C. T. U.

Her life was one of devotion to others, a dutiful daughter, a loving sister and admired aunt. She cared for her nieces left orphans and lived up to the ideals in which she had faith. Miss Hughes during her life worked in various households superintending the household affairs, minding the children and soothing the sick. Her memory will be treasured among many who knew and realized her sterling qualities.
