Patricia Hawkins, 89, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away Saturday, September 7, 2019 at Accura Healthcare of Le Mars.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 14, 2019 at the Presbyterian United Church of Christ in Le Mars. Reverend Jan Christensen will officiate. Burial will be at a later date at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation with the family present will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the church. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars, Iowa.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Pat’s name to Life Skills Training Center in Le Mars or a charity of your choice.

Patricia Ann Hawkins was born July 23, 1930 on a farm northeast of Spirit Lake, Iowa, the daughter of Melville and Maurine (Test) Welty. She attended grade school in Superior, Iowa and later in Spirit Lake. She and her family moved to Varina, Iowa. She attended high school there and graduated from Varina High School. Following high school, she attended Iowa State Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls, Iowa, where she received her teaching certificate. Pat taught one year at Sioux Rapids, Iowa and three years in Waterville, Iowa.

She was united in marriage to Dale Moen on December 26, 1950 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. While Dale was teaching, they made their home in several towns before settling in Le Mars in 1963. After her children were grown, Pat began teaching elementary children reading at Gehlen Catholic in Le Mars before going to Le Mars Community School. While teaching, Pat returned to college and received her B.A. from Westmar College in Le Mars. Pat taught at Le Mars Community for over 26 years, retiring in 1992. Dale passed away March 2, 1984.

Pat married Norris Hawkins on October 19, 1984. The couple made their home in Le Mars. Norris passed away December 5, 2004.

Pat was a member of the Presbyterian United Church of Christ in Le Mars. She was a charter member of the P.E.O. Chapter N.Q. for many years. Pat was also member of the local A.A.U.W.. As a child, she was active in 4-H. Over the years, she enjoyed sewing, baking, especially her homemade bread, watercolor painting, gardening, reading, and cooking. Late, after she married Norris, they enjoyed taking many bank trips throughout the United States.

Survivors include her three sons: Greg Moen of Fairbank, IA, Jeff (Yvonne) Moen of Davenport, IA, and Lynn (Dee) Moen of Council Bluffs, IA; 2 step children: Gregg (Diane) Hawkins of Grinnell, IA, and Nancy (Gary) Peace of Lee’s Summit, MO; 6 grandchildren: Josh (Theresa) Moen, Chris (Jing) Moen, Katie (Tyler) Jermann, Blake Moen, Mitch Moen, and Hannah Moen; 4 step grandchildren: Julie (Levi) Dressler, Jen (Mitch) Stubbs, Bradford (Anna) Peace, and Jackson Peace; 2 great grandchildren: Grace Moen and CeCe Moen; 6 step great grandchildren: Joel and Lucas Dressler, Blayke, Maysen, Dylan, and Meyer Stubbs; two brothers in law: Richard Moen of West Dundee, IL and Lorvan Hawkins of Ireton, IA; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Melville and Maurine Welty; her husbands, Dale Moen and Norris Hawkins; and her brother, Earl Welty.
