Dorothy M. Bunjes, 79, of Le Mars, a Plymouth County native and lifelong resident, died unexpectedly Sunday, Sept. 7, 2003, at her home in Le Mars.

The former Dorothy Margaret Feller was born March 19, 1924 in Remsen, the daughter of William and Olga (Strohbeen) Feller. She was raised and educated in Remsen and graduated from St. Mary's Catholic High School.

She had served her country with the U.S. Navy, during World War II, and was stationed at Treasure Island, Calif. Dorothy married Walter George Bunjes on Nov. 19, 1946, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen. They lived in Remsen for a couple of years before moving to Le Mars where they raised their family. Her husband Walter died Jan. 1, 1990.

Mrs. Bunjes was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars.

One of her favorite pastimes was reading. She enjoyed being at home with her family.

Survivors include two daughters, Becky Keith and her husband, Larry, of rural Maurice, and Tina Freking of Sioux City; a son, Rocky Bunjes and his wife, Susie, of Le Mars; 10 grandchildren; a great-grandson; three sisters-in-law, Margaret Bunjes of Le Mars, Mary Morfitt of Minneapolis, Minn., and Hildegard Hammond and her husband, Arnold, of Sioux City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter; a grandson, Blaine Keith; a sister, Virginia Campbell; a brother-in-law, Heino Bunjes; and several other brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars. The Rev. James Tigges will officiate and burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens, rural Le Mars.

Visitation will be anytime after 5 p.m. today (Tuesday) at the Feuerstein Funeral Home with a Scriptural wake service at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday evening. Visitation will resume Wednesday morning from 8 a.m. until service time.

Pallbearers will be Dan Bunjes, Matt Bunjes, Suzanne Bunjes, Billy Bunjes, Beth Bunjes, Dustin Keith, and Mike Lubben.
